I'll Excuse You for Your Political Confusion

“No, I’m not against gays.”
“Haha well, I’m not against atheists.”
“How would I be against my own gender?”

Let me explain myself for the ones who don’t,
The ones who have to respond with the three lines above when they do
The casualties from the media portraying us into a box

To change those quotes to a positive answer
Would be self-loathing,
And I’m not here to earn minority points either
So let me explain myself further

Free-speech is at crisis
And no matter your opinions you must understand,
We are not here to promote hate

(however when you shout the words,
“It’s okay to punch a nazi!”,
And then call everyone a nazi
It’s clear where the real hate originates)

No matter how offensive,
People have a right to words,
Check the 1st Amendment
Of the U.S. Constitution
“Congress shall make no law
Abridging the freedom of speech”

These are just words,
Want to see action?
Check the Middle East.

The author's comments:

This poem is not up for debate, nor was it created by myself as an opinion or to seek argument.

This poem was inspired by my enthusiasm in politics.

I hope to see a world where we do not judge others/political parties based upon incorrect accusations formed by deceitful people and sources.

@Patrick82432 that means a lot:) I actually just published a short essay on college safe spaces I wrote a few months ago for English class (it was more opinionated and persuasive than "statistical" - although everything I wrote was 100% true obviously) - it's still pending approval though! Writing is pretty much the only way I can get my political opinions out, unless I'm talking to my family members.

I'd just like to say that, even after already reading this in the past, it's still an amazing piece that I truly appreciate. Amazing message and impacting truth. I just came back to this piece after stumbling on it again and I still love it!
