My Brother, My Savior

One more step into the future,
One more step into adulthood,
I see you stepping every day.
Since the day I was born,
You relieved me of my boredom
You developed my delight,
You dampered my sadness.
You were like living proof,
That life is livable.
I believed that there was hope,
When I saw your head in a book,
24/7, studying for the big test,
Like a tortoise hiding in it’s shell
And then I saw the grin on your face,
When I came to visit you,
In one of the most prestigious schools in IL.
And I was proud.
I was proud of the obstacles you’ve overcome,
The childhood you faced.
You were alone in the world for 6 years,
But me, I had you, through it all.
But now, you're off to the world,
You have your troubles,
But you have what you’ve always wanted,
Freedom.
You showed me how to get through,
This thing called Life.
And for that, I’m forever grateful.
I’m grateful for your shoulder to cry on.
I’m grateful for you being there when no one else was.
For protecting me from all the horrors of life.
You were like my anchor, keeping me grounded,
A shield I could trust to stand behind.
I’m grateful.
And I will repay you by doing my best to succeed in life
I will follow in your footsteps,
And make You proud.
See you in the future,
Where we’ll be waving to each other,
Standing on our success and happiness.
