Detroit
Detroit:
Hustling and bustling streets
But an eerie, muted-ness
Almost a ghostly presence
But an inner intensity
Sketchy buildings,
Run down apartment complexes,
David, who works at the gas station
And who gives me discounts on slushies
Why do I call this call this place home?
You know everyone,
and nobody at the same time
You feel safe and loved
While feeling vulnerable and hated
There is a special vibe in Detroit
I can’t explain it
But I’m most certain
This is home
