Music is in our soul, but many don’t believe
Without the music the band and I wouldn’t be able to survive in this world
I listen as they tell me it’s O.K
As the music gives me hope
for those minutes, I feels like someone's there for me
Like I understand my band members were there
But my band helped me realize I’m not alone and it was fair
Me, the believer in god, a beast on the guitar, was on snare
The band and I pull up to the Jazz band festival
We saw all the bands it was incredible
The festival was in New Orleans where Jazz was founded
In Louisiana, the heat was no joke to be wearing black suits
But there we were, standing out from the other bands
Then we was given a signal to play
We played “A Closer Walk With Thee”
I was nervous
But I didn’t let it get to me
After we played
The audience praised us and gave us a standing ovation
The moment we had up on the stage was unforgettable
We wasn’t the best band there at the festival
But I promise we made a mark there
Many didn’t believe a band full of black men couldn’t do it
With faith and god dreams can come true

I was inspired by how hard it was for black men to make it back then in the world.
