As the music begins,
she slithers into position,
gliding across the dance floor, her
seamless steps are impossible to imitate.
A twirl of her tail
signals the maracas in the orchestra.
She soundlessly slides along,
her body barely brushing the stage.
You can’t hear her feet.
Her movements, synchronized
with the slow hiss of the violins.
A mouse creeps on stage,
oblivious to the performance.
She glances at the mouse, astonished.
He interrupted her performance! And
he does not even see her coming,
as she draws her fangs and lurches at him.

This poem is written as though a snake is a dancer.
