Hiding Behind a Smile
A woman sits in the middle of the room
Surrounded by white walls, white noises
With a constant beep droning on and on
Head bowed down on the ice cold hands
The hands that once held hers with love
Gripping them - a promise to never let go
A small speck- a breach in the wall
she'd built since a little girl,
an ocean of feeling conquers
The hum of the voice overcomes
Her thought of the world’s devastation
Remember his words-
With an impossible force
A smile decorates her aging face
Youth kissing her soft cheeks
No falter in her turn
No falter in her smile
It encourages the little boy behind her
That nothing was ever wrong

I am 15 years old and a sophmore at Herricks High School. I was inspire by my mentor Mr. Sermerdjian and the love my parents give me. I know that every parent tries to hide their pain from their children. This poem shows that perspective.
