Hello, to all silent
And to all who don’t care.
Who see it happen everyday
And yet, act unaware.
See us begging on the street,
Or dressed suit and tie.
The same thoughts run through your head,
My question is why.
Is it the kinks in my hair?
Or the width of my nose?
Or the big pretty lips?
Bet you forgot about those.
You forgot that you morph
To look like us.
When we possess them however,
You see unsightly, or lust.
Is it the oil on our skin,
Thighs to good to be thin,
Dark eyes that hide
Our secrets within?
Is that why we’re attacked?
Bruises covering our backs,
Losing everything
But what we’ve got in a sack.
To be black?
Hello, to all silent,
All who know that it’s true.
That there’s honestly nothing different
Between me and you.
If I had a little more from my mom
Than my dad, would I care this much
Of how it’s gotten so bad?
Would I have made you realize
How insulting it is
To hear: “All lives matter,”
Well why not his?
What about his,
The one running but lost the chase,
Simply because he forgot about race.
If he thought about it then,
He would’ve removed his hood.
Even then,
Would the officer have understood?
That the man he was shooting
Was one of many,
Never saved.
Soon joined by others,
Hundreds,
In graves.
Where privileged were forgiven,
But never forgave.
Hello, to all silent
When we’re screaming so loud.
Why not march, why not Kneel,
Or raise your fist in a crowd?
Why silence this new voice chatter?
When hello, wake up,
Black lives still matter.

This peice is about black lives matter. As a mixed teenager, it's hard to hear comments people say about your race. I wrote this to expose how it feels when people insult part of who you are.
