ImPerfect
To be imperfect
Is to be perfect.
If she’s “perfect”
Is she worth it?
But what makes her
So perfect to you?
Does she have perfect blonde hair
And perfect eyes of blue?
Is any of this true?
I thought you already knew.
There’s more than one girl
That’s perfect for you.
And every imperfect perfect person finds another
Imperfect perfect person and they
Make an imperfectly perfect couple
Together
So if that’s the fact,
It’s actually better
To be imperfect
Instead of
The image we created of
“The perfect body” “the perfect hair”
Or “this is what you should wear.”
Why do we care?
We are letting the ignorance of our society change the way we look
We care more about things we can’t change,
It’s about time we read a book,
Or two
If only we all knew
You don’t need eyes of blue
No matter what the color
It’s what makes you, you
Don’t conform
Stand up
Speak loud and clear
And don’t sip from the media’s cup
Of what they want you to be
Love yourself
Take a lead
Their standards are too high on the shelf
Grab a different book to read
You don’t choose the way you look
But you choose the life you lead
So take the media and knock them on their knees
There is beauty in absolutely
Everything
About you
Believe that.

My inspiration for this piece is today's society, and the standards set for young girls my age. Models in magazines and pictures online set a standard for girls my age that is simply unattainable, and is confusing to girls like me who have different body types. My inspiration for my poem is how I learned to accept myself, and is my way of trying to help other do the same.
