"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." -A Cinderella Story

My parents always said I was shy

and I needed to fix that

As I pulled down my sleeves to

cover my hands and I

chewed on the pink cotton

As I complained about

asking for a box

at every restaurant

And when it was

my turn for introduction

my face was red

year after year

I sit quietly

pondering my own thoughts

I loudly speak with

friends and family and

flirt with anything

but shyness, shamelessly

I speak lowly of

some people I met

in one of those firsts

my face red but

only with anger

I scream names

chant and sing

with no care

I let tears flow

in front of those

I want to listen to me

No shame, no regret

But yet I still seem

to need to fix my shyness

This piece is about how my parents have always seen me differently than I am in school and around friends. I hope readers are able to relate with this. Every teen has different personalities in and out of school, right?
