Here’s a story I cannot hold:
Truth be told I’m getting old
I’m not aging super fast, I’m perfectly safe and sound
But people are getting tired of having me around

It starts off nice, I gradually talk more
But then I feel burdensome and want to curl up on the floor
I try to persevere when things get rough, times get tough
The voices, they tell me I’m not good enough

Here’s a story I cannot hold:
The story of a love that never grew old
There lived a lonely lover too afraid of what she’d say
So she let the love of her life slowly slip and fade away

All she wanted to do was scream those words
But voices kept telling her she would never be heard.
Well I tried to persevere when things got rough, times got tough
But the voices, they told me I’m not good enough

Here’s a story I cannot hold:
The greatest story ever told
On a faraway land where the dreams never end
There exist lonely shadows that I grew to befriend

And these whimsical dreams were so so great
To stay on this island, I thought, was my fate
And I wanted to stay here when things got rough, times got tough
But the voices, they told me I wasn’t good enough

Here’s a story I can now hold
One day I’ll tell you when we grow old
The story of a dreamer with no plan B
You’ll want to hear it someday, I foresee

You might think your doings are never right
But on the ride of your life, you must hold on tight
I know you’ll persevere when things get rough, times get tough,
This voice will tell you that you are good enough.

The author's comments:

The goal was to inspire others and to let them know that they are always good enough. The poem tells a series of stories that cannot be held in any longer. The stories end unfortunately up until the last one, which shows that even in the worst of times it is important to remember that you are so much more than enough, and things will get better.
