To Be Good
They say that I need you,
To be pure,
To be holy,
To be good.
As though believing in something higher,
is quintessential, to believing in yourself.
I believe in myself.
In the power of the person.
In the power of the individual.
To do good,
Simply,
Because it is good.
Because it is right.
Because it is rewarding.
I need not be persuaded,
By glory,
By riches,
By the promise of an ideal future.
Because our goodness is inherent.
It is already there.
It was always there.
Do not tell me that I need you.
That you,
Are a prerequisite,
To my contributions.
I do not need you.
To be pure.
To be holy.
To be good.
