I Am Not

I am not a sock, often forgotten and discarded.
I am not a sock, a dust collector, and mismatched.
I am not a sock, imperfect, nor infamous.
I am not a sock, unimportant, and not special.
I would not want to be a sock, sometimes hidden, lost in forgotiness.
I am a person, not perfect, but special.
I am a person, with individuality, and noticed.
I am a person, charismatic, and ecstatic.
I am a person, important and significant.
I am not a sock, but I sure am a person.

I had to write this poem for an assignment in my Creative Writing class and we had towrite about an inanimate object I would not want to be and we also had to imagine our shadow self. This poem was inspired by the poem "I am Not I" by Juana Ramon Jimenez.
