Night
She greets us after the light of day
designed with bright stars,
and her eyes all painted black.
She does not weep
when the daylight dips beneath the earth,
but takes her place to illuminate the sky.
There’s no crack in the silence
when light turns to darkness.
No splash when the tide rises from the sea.
She does not weep
as darkness swallows the stitchings of the earth,
when all color is muted.
There is no roar as shadows retreat,
and details disappear.
No uproar as the stillness of night creeps in.
Sounds are magnified by our imagination,
our awareness to detail is smeared with
darkened colors.
She greets us after the light of day
as the night settles in,
dressed in a gown full of stars.
