Dinner ends
my mom and I
slip on our shoes
down western ave
past the pizza place
the fountain park
with blinking lights,
and panicked walk
walk
walk
signs
hidden by the tunnel
of canopy trees
letting specks of
orange and pink sunlight
peek in
turning along the water
boats and river
reach my bridge
up to the rough
curved ledge
dangling our toes
the water captures
my attention
pieces of light flow
along with the guidance
of the river
glancing up
the warmth
catches our faces
the sun looks
back at us
mingling with the clouds.
