Setting The Timer
The timer,set,
Nana’s cookies placed in the oven.
Noses,clinging to the aroma,
Hands, impatiently grabbing,
Eyes, raced around the room in anticipation,
And Nana was always there...
The timer, ticking,
Nana had to sit down.
But she didn’t make it to the chair.
Sirens blared down the road,
Stretchers squeezed through the hall,
We didn’t know what to do,
but Nana was always there...
The timer, finished.
Nana changed the day after.
Calendars counted down the final days,
Family flying in to say goodbye,
We remember her one cookie at a time,
Because Nana is always here.
