Ding! Me, my brother, and my neighbor gather around the oven on a fall day,
our hands flying, as muffins disappear.
The warm and soft muffins-
bliss, as sweet chocolate chips mix with bitter pumpkin.
Another is what we want, but there’s only enough for one.

Red, orange, and yellow fall from trees outside.
GO! My brother and I race outside and faceoff,
our neighbor grabs the football from the garage.
Go! It’s a race to the ball.
Go! The cold leather slips through my fingers and into my brothers.

We line up one final time,
winner takes the muffin.
GO! I take off,
The ball flies through the air and the end zone’s an arm length’s away.
I dive for the ball as the leather strikes my hand.

Sweating and muddy, we trudge inside.
Sounds of the NFL blare.
I smile as I snag the last muffin.
The warm and soft muffin-
bliss, as sweet chocolate chips mixes with bitter pumpkin, this is the perfect muffin.
