Favorite Quote:
"The words were on their way, and when they arrived, she would hold them in her hands like clouds, and she would ring them out like the rain."

- Markus Zusak

I want to be

Unfettered,

Unrestricted,

From society's metal bars

Its perceptions

Of what I should do and don't do

Stronger than steel

And set deep in stone.

I want to be free.

Free to fight.

Free to find

Who think I should be.

Want to be sugar,

Be Superman,

Be my teacher's favorite pet,

Lick up her words of praise,

Be thunder,

Be thorns.

I want you

To keep your advice

To yourself,

Because

I don't want

To hear it.

The author's comments:

This poem is based off of a "letter" that I wrote from a mother to her maturing daughter detailing what it means to be the perfect woman. This is the daughter's reply.
