Heartbreak

Two months ago,

I experienced true heartbreak

for the first time, because

my dear grandfather

suffered a severe stroke,

losing function in his entire left side.

Twenty-six days ago,

I experienced even greater heartbreak when

the man dearest to my heart,

my dad,

was diagnosed with cancer.

Heartbreak is a funny thing, you see, for it always passes by.

Two months and nine days later,

my grandfather

is nearing the declaration of a complete recovery.

Twenty-six days later, and

my wonderful dad

is a colon cancer survivor and is

cancer free.

Heartbreak is a funny thing, you see, for it...

always

passes

by.

The author's comments:

My inspiration for this poem was the strength and determination of my dad and grandfather to get well. Another reason I chose this topic was to glorify God for His unfailing love and mercy.
