You, Me, and Anybody
And I know that these scars aren’t going away.
I’ve scrubbed them and scraped them but they’re here to stay.
My walls might have saved me,
But I know they’ve changed me;
For good or for bad, though, who’s really to say?
I toss and I turn in my bed late at night.
I see all the wrongs but I can’t make them right.
Take a page from my book,
Because you know that look;
When you hide from the darkness but can’t see the light.
They don’t understand all the secrets we keep.
They won’t understand when we say we can’t sleep.
So just put on a smile.
But is it worthwhile,
To go through your life without making a peep?
But we can keep walking with legs that are lame.
Your pain and your loss are not your true name.
So if you don’t feel free,
Take a seat next to me.
We all know, deep down, that we’re really the same.
This poem is about everyone and for everyone. We should all be able to relate it to someone, even if that someone is us.
