I am from
I am from smudged side walk chalk dusting oversized overalls,
I am from the scent of home cooked food wafting down a sun kissed street,
from stampeding down the stairs when dad gets home from work,
from scabbed bug bites, and itchy sweaters,
from broken pencils, from braided hair
I am from words loud enough to be heard
but too quiet to be listened to.
I am from scraped knees and stubbed toes,
from studying all night and learning all day,
I am from a world that always demands a little more than I can give,
I am from giving my everything.
I am from dreaming about where I am going while remembering where I am from.
