crisp air and blueberry muffins

the air is cold
and crisp
spreading through our fingertips
like icy fractals
crackling
freezing
numbing
three p.m.
the bakery
across the street
smells like blueberry
and garlic
the beautiful sweet aroma
intertwining with the pungent earthy scent
(tainted)
sonia likes the garlic bread
i like the muffins
so we skip across the street
after school
and buy our snacks
we savor
the warmth
the deliciousness
the crunch of leaves under our sneakers
picking out the blueberries to eat later
the sweet purple stains in the remnants of the yellow muffin
crumpling up the wrapper
walking home
the air is cold
and crisp
