Do you accept you?
Do you accept you?
I believe that everybody is somebody’s everything, nobody’s nothing;
I believe my fellow African Americans are beautiful and misjudged everyday.
I believe that family is all you truly have;
And everyone else is for themselves.
I believe that place, where you see your cousins playing outside on your street.
The place where you inhale the sweet smell of grandma's home remedies.
That place where you can say anything you want to say and be,
Who you are.
That place where you're laughing, you're crying, you're shouting for joy.
That place that will never get old.
The place where you grew up, is who you are.
Accepting one another can be hard,
But I believe if we do love each other, this world would be so much better.
I believe “life is hard”,
Though, I believe there is always room for change.
I believe I know, how it feels to look in the mirror, and don’t like what you see.
The scars, your body, your hair.
Though I believe that everyday I will grow and grow,
Till I reach the tip of clouds, to realize that I am unique.
Unique in many different ways, that no one will ever know.
Seeking for acceptance from your friends,
Seeking love from someone who doesn’t care,
Seeking attention for ones who don’t pay attention.
It’s all nonsense.
I believe that seeking for “happiness”, isn’t going to work.
Happiness, is a choice.
Change, is a choice.
Self-Acceptance, is a choice.
I believe you have to accept who you are,
To accept other people.
So now, do you accept yourself?

Music inspired me to write this poem. Throughout my life music has always inspired and I thank the heavens for creating it. I want people to know that accepting yourself can be a big change to your life. You can love more, be confident more, and be just, original. You are worth more than you think.
