refugee
he watches the world with wide eyes
dry blood clings to his right side
his home’s gone, and so’s the light
  when darkness exploded the night
  rubble clutters on the ground
they pray for peace, safe and sound
pray for mercy, that those around
keep on fighting- lost are found
for as he hears his brother cry
his friends collapse and people die
his fists will loosen at his side,
  he’s survived, he'll survive.
he will find love and find success
but he knows he sure won’t forget
his childhood, the blood and war
and he grows up, knows for sure
that he’ll help others find their dreams
for he too was a refugee.
