Things I Wish I Believed
I wish I believed
in religion instead of
a greedy, free-for-all world
with no guidance from above.
I wish I believed
in life after death
rather than a state of nothingness,
all consciousness gone.
I wish I believed
that the sun will always rise,
instead of knowing that one day
its warm glow will cease.
I wish I believed
that our lives have purpose
rather than feeling like my
life and death mean nothing.
I wish I believed
in true love instead of
cynical people who only desire
brief physical connections.
Lastly, I wish I believed
in myself, for all I see
is a shell of a person
who doesn’t believe in anything.

Everyone in this world seems to have something that they believe in, whether it's God, love, themselves, or anything else. Some days, I feel like believing in things is hard, but it's always good to have hope.
