What We Are
"What are we?", you ask again
With tears brimming on your eyes
Have you forgotten what I said
When you asked the other times?
Just look at our trembling hearts
That reach far above our heads
The same way waves reach for the stars
They fall and raise again
Just look at the tears in our eyes
That, for a moment, let us glimpse
Past the leak and into the sky
Above our churning dark abyss
What are we? Oh, you must see,
What with our salt-water eyes
Our hearts that speed up at the beat
And our neverending minds
Seventy-three percent water
So remember when you cry,
My darling, you are an ocean
And your sea will never run dry
