Safe word

By , Parkland, FL

I'm a pack of cigarettes and your love was a lighter with no flame.

The promise of happiness and the lingering threat of loneliness setting a trap for depression.

Reliant on your lies as they choked me, safe words can't save me, abstinence can't return my innocence.

So f*** you, I'm only in love with the uncertainty of whether you were a bad memory or just a nightmare.
