Noir and Blanc
Blanc told Noir
To hide his eyes.
Noir told Blanc
To hide her hands.
Noir's eyes
Were hidden by glass.
Blanc's hands
Were hidden by cloth.
They walked together
Down the street.
No one knew
Who they were;
For the black
Could not be seen
In his eyes,
Hidden by glass,
And the claws
Could not be seen
On her hands,
Hidden by cloth.
They walked together
Down the street
As people sang
Of the raven
And the cat.
Of the raven's day
And the cat's night.
Of black feathers
And white fur.
And all the while
Noir and Blanc
Laughed together.
