Moths Around the Moon
I don’t know what I’m doing
But I fake it rather well
Putting on a smile of assumed confidence
And ignoring the doubts
That flutter around like moths
In my brain.
Don’t know what I’m doing,
Figuring it out one step at a time.
When you look at me,
Can you tell? Can you see
All my insecurities through
The mask I pulled out of
My closet this morning?
Does it show?
Or am I fooling you, too,
The way I try to fool myself,
Faking it until I make it.
I don’t know what I’m doing,
But I fake it rather well,
Blending in among the crowds of people
Who know what’s going on.
Or do they really? Is their confidence
Really just a mask too?
If we all came out one day,
Left the masks behind,
Would we all look the same?
Perhaps our moths that are doubt
Would all fly around the moon
Together,
Rejoicing in the things
That we don’t know.
