"I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream." Van Gogh

Down down down
Into an abyss
Where the sirens don’t sound
And there’s nothing left to miss

Up up up

Into the sky
Where the lights will all erupt
When you open up your eyes

Don’t leave me alone

All I'll do is sink

So silent and so slow
No thoughts left to think

Don’t let me go
My knuckles are still white
From clenching on to tired ropes
I don’t want to face the light

Now I'm floating in thin air

In the midst of something I'm supposed to make

A decision to latch onto

While they scream at me what is at stake

I can’t choose a direction

They say that choice is based on what you know
But I have yet to make the connection
Between where I am and where I need to go

The author's comments:

Making decisions something forced down the throats of teenagers, and many fail to realize the imminent pressure and feelings of desperation this causes. Sometimes it seems like our futures are portrayed to be a matter of jubilant success or burning failure. I wanted to write a piece that encompasses how I feel as I enter my senior year of high school, still with no clue as to what my future holds. It is terrifying to let go of the conformity that we have bonded to for so many years, and I know that I am not alone in this.
