Without You
Please don’t leave me
Who will tuck me into bed,
Or scare away monsters,
Or read me bedtime stories?
Please don’t hold my hand
I am five now
I can do it by myself
I don’t need your help.
Please don’t come in here
Knock first before you enter,
I don’t want you to see me,
I’m older now.
Please don’t leave me
Who will hold my hand,
Or dry my tears,
Or help me pick out dresses,
Or help me decide who’s the one?
Who will be my mother?
I have found someone
Who dries my tears
And I am now picking out a dress
So I can marry him
I think I am okay now;
Okay enough to accept your absence
I am ready for my new life,
Without you.

I feel as if mothers are really underappreciated. As a child goes through life, there are varying phases in regards to how much or how little we rely on our mothers. We don't realize how much they do for us until they aren't around for a while or if a mother passes away. I hope this piece inspires children and young adults to cherish their mothers while they are still here.
