My pain wasn’t
visible or

able to be
touched like a
broken bone or a
black eye.

Internalling
fractured

I wasn’t handed a
pamphlet:
“How to Properly Recover.”

Family
Friends
Religion
The community

Obliviously
they were
my
counselors.

Being my company, they
guided me with their

affection

and they
cared to my
inner
wounds.

They
acknowledged
my pain without
having to speak because
they understood

that I didn’t need drugs;

They were my medication.
