Still seeming so

surreal
eight months later,

I can’t believe that
you’re truly

dead.

Standing in your
house, I expect you to
round the corner

and squeeze me;

the perfect balance of

affection
comfort and
warmth.

The last time I
experienced that
sensation, you were
in my arms
incapable of clasping me
as you once did from

infant
toddler to
teen.

I crave your
sweet, gentle voice and
genuine love of life.

I desire one last
simple conversation
that isn’t
fogged with
illness

purely consisting of

me and you.
