Dreams

Dreams are similar to butterflies,
In the sense that they fly away
Only after you catch a brief glimpse
of their wings in flight

Then they seemingly disappear.

But what are dreams?
What do they consist of?

A scientist will tell you
a dream is just a jumbled up
series of thoughts, images, and sensations
occurring in a person's mind during sleep.
(“Interesting things, aren’t they?”)

A romantic will tell you
Dreams are visions and wishes
Your heart yearns were true.
(“Magical things, aren’t they?”)

A pessimist once told me
That dreams are more like nightmares,
just taunts from the universe,
Just haunts, nothing but a curse.
(“Such fickle things...”)

But me?
What do I think dreams are?
I like to imagine dreams
are made up of stardust and affection,
Sweet memories and innovation.

With a pinch of Tinkerbell’s pixie dust
so I can just
   F l o a
             t.
            A w a
                    y.

Started as an assignment for school, but I really liked it so I'm going to see how it does out in the world.
