Walking into the streets of the new city
Words drift up to your ears.
Words in numerous languages.
Too many to count.
Hundreds of people from different nations.
Some are looking at the city in awe,
Delighted to have finally arrived.
Others are crying tears of joy,
Reuniting with family members,
Having not seen them in years.
Their mouths are all moving,
Forming indecipherable sounds,
Sounds from hundreds of different countries.
Languages.
Words.
And although you can't understand these words,
You can be almost positive,
That these words,
Are about our country.
A country built on immigrants,
Immigrants who,
Although are from different places,
Came to America.
They came to America,
To New York,
For a new beginning.
