In my life,
I have often been misunderstood
and cast to the side.
My words drowned out by those
who speak louder, and more agreeably.
And so for many years,
I was bitter.
Today, I realize these things happen
only because I march to a different beat entirely,
a quiet melody that will scarcely leave your mind.
It is generally agreed
that reaching for the stars
is a fine and commendable thing to do.
My habit of dancing with the milky way
has not been so widely accepted.
When other people taste sorrow,
I suppose they cry.
I just pick up a pen.
But I have never been one to pick up a magazine
to find out what kind of person I should be.
I paved my own path,
held my own hand.
My very dreams are forged with colors
some people refuse to see.
I have always been a flavor all my own,
a spicy yet subtle contradiction
of all the things I was told to be.
They despise me
because they know I will not change.
