Fifty Blessings

i gave myself fifty prayers

for every hymn, every worship

that rolled off my tongue,

wishing for only your happiness

i mean, i don't believe in god

but i would for you

i'd carve out my bones and

replace every rib with a confession

for a robed stranger in a cardboard box

adorn my head with the crown of thorns

and pierce my veins to bleed dry of wine

let judas kiss my temples,

the graced mark of death and the traitor

and to abandon my father's gifts

all of that

if it would just bring you

one step closer to heaven

Wow. I love the line, "the graced mark of death and the traitor." Stunning imagery.
