They’re stacking upon each other now

They compile and compile.

I can’t see above the wall they made

The bricks go on for miles.

I wish I could just knock them down,

But I stand in the same place.

They block the light the horizon holds,

So the darkness I embrace.

How do you go and break down walls,

When they’re all you’ve ever known?

Or desire more than what the walls allow,

When you’re surrounded by the stone.

I feel their rough edges on my fingertips,

The brick agitates my skin.

But as I press down, I’m noticing,

They’re letting out what lies within.

Droplets of red form on my hands

And with it, each brick falls.

A sudden crash as each one lands

I am walking through the walls.

The rusted stone showers all around me

As I look down at my hands.

The red splotches, the falling brick

This is not what I had planned.

The horizon is holding an auburn orb

A hue more beautiful than the one,

Of the blocks that used to hold me in

So I look up, and I run.
