The boy set off on the still morn
Watched the world for a moment, in all its still, untouched beauty and just was
He pressed his fingertips to the ground
And felt the world awakening
Before he set off, flying through the breeze
And ran passed some trees
He counted all the branches, and peeked at all the leaves
He continued running, down the narrow street
On the cracked side walk, where all the crawlies creep.
He turned the corner, and ran parallel the sun
He looked up at the sky, and could see the day had almost begun.
He started running faster, as the sky turned purple slowly,
And raced the sun, for the love of all things holy
The place by the tracks, was where he was going
He sprinted down the echoing block,
whispered with the barking dogs
hummed at the knowing sky
and smiled.
He reached the little clearing, where he could twirl free
And raced up the steep side
Without missing a stride
He jumped over the ditch,
And rolled on to the ground
And sprang up with the grace of a cat
And ran all the way around
And climbed the jagged hill
Which burst from the ground like a misplaced tooth,
Sharp and hard
Not belonging
He stood at its crest
He watched the running gold
Melting through the fields of warm golden stalks
Sweeping toward him faster still
He spread his arms wide and watched the quick fingered gold envelop him, head to toe
His friend the sun, come to play, and watch over him, another day.
He flopped down backwards, and whistled at the sky, he beat him once again, his friend up in the sky.
