Why fit in when you were born to stand out? -Dr. Suess

I am alone in the dark
Quiet, soundless night
Drowsily I sit in silence
I am alone in the dark

Watching, waiting, hopeless morning
Through dawn and twilight I sit and watch
Though reluctant of no thoughts
My sanity slips from my fingers

The trauma of an elaborate sky
It’s colors leaping towards my eyes
Though bright and comforting
I am still alone in the dark

An inadequate jumble of words
For no words escape me
A seldom, expressionless night
To a cold-hearted sunrise

I am alone in the dark
The presence of the world around me
It is not there to me

Sitting, watching, waiting, staring
The stars hold no warning of what is yet to come
The universe embraces me
And I am embraced in the light

I was thinking about the feeling of when you are the only one awake at night in your house. It is kind of scary. I also wanted to capture almost the narrator slowly losing their sanity. The poem is quite dark but the main character does not represent myself. It is about someone who is losing themselves in their own thoughts and looking towards suicide. In the end, the character cannot take it any longer and kills themselves. Although the story of the poem is dark, I would like readers to see the light through this character's tunnel.
