Envy has a mouth that is constantly hungry,
Searching and scouring for the innocent, its prey.

Envy has a tongue that speaks an unfamiliar language,
The language of evil, disguised as greed.

Envy has a voice that manipulates its prey,
Deceiving and deluding until it gets its way.

Envy has eyes for everything you do not have,
Everything it sees, you instantly need.

Envy has ears for the things you never wanted to hear,
But now they are cemented into your brain and you cannot let go.

Envy has arms that reach out before you,
Grabbing onto others, scaring their skin.

Envy has hands that take from the pure,
No matter whose it is, it is no longer.

Envy has fingers that curl around your wrists,
Dragging you further inside its depths.

Envy has an appetite for everything in sight,
It cannot be satisfied, this is no longer your fight.

Envy has an infallible strength that cannot be defeated
You surrender to the enemy, you are no longer yourself.

Envy has this place for the little girl you once were,
Deep, deep inside it, you watch with despair.

You cannot control this monster anymore.

You watch in horror
As this monster you have created
Takes and destroys and hurts and conquers

Everything you have ever wanted is suddenly at your fingertips
But this is not how you wanted it
This is not how you pictured it

You find yourself wishing for simplicity
Wishing for the past
Wishing that all the hurt you caused would go away

Yet again you are wishing for something you do not have
A trip back to the past
Where you could make things right

But the monster does not abide by your wishes
The monster is hungry
And cannot be stopped

This monster is derived from hell
One of seven sins
This monster is one that everyone faces sooner rather than later.

So when you wake up one day,
To see this green-eyed monster staring back at you,
Know that it is within you that this monster lives
Within you was where this monster was born

Know that it is your insides that this monster feeds on,
You that it is destroying, slowly yet surely.

Know that someday soon you will be gone,
Someday soon this green-eyed monster will consume you.

Unless.

Out claws the girl you are now,
Leaving the little girl you once were deep inside the monster.

You scream at the monster with the voice you never knew you had.
You confront the monster with the confidence you now have.
You fight the monster with the strength you found within.
You attack the monster with skill that shows off the wisdom you discovered you possess.
You protect your body from the monster with the newfound respect for yourself you have developed.
You resist the monster with a new light ablaze in your eyes.

The monster fights back
But now you are stronger
The monster tries to deceive you
But you will not fall into this trap.

Not this time.

And as you look down at this green-eyed monster taking its last breath,
You remember who you once were,
And look forward to the new girl you will be.

A girl who is happy with what she has
A girl who does not secretly wish for more
A girl who is newly confident in herself
A girl who gives rather than takes

A girl who has a new perspective
On the true meaning of life

The pursuit of happiness
Is a journey inside yourself
Once you find your inner happiness
This monster will not return.
