Swing
At first she holds you tightly
Gently guides you forward
Only to pull you back to her
Later loosens her grip
Lets you float just beyond her reach
And holds her breath until you return to her
Then she gives you wings
teaches you to fly
tells you to kick the clouds
You are on your own now
Though she stands ready to catch you
if ever your wings should fail
You sail forward and slide back
as you soar higher and higher
Until you reach the top
You have risen too far
And you fear the fall
So you pull your legs in close
You give up trying
Your toes graze over the wood chips
And eventually you stop
It is difficult to rise again
from this flightless halt
But you remember what she told you
You kick the clouds with all your might
You have finally found your rhythm
And everything is right.
