The Same Walk
In white
She glides blissfully past rows and rows
of pews filled with the smiling faces
of those who love her
Her steps in perfect harmony
with the joyous chords of Canon in D,
as she walks toward her future
Her tear-filled eyes see nothing but
what she has always dreamed of
The love of her life stares back at her
and whispers forever in her ear
She walks the same walk again,
In black
She drags herself past rows and rows
of pews filled with the weeping eyes
of those who loved him.
Her steps agonize in tune
with the heartrending notes of silence,
as she walks toward her past
Her devastated eyes have run dry,
she realizes her nightmare is real.
The love of her life lies still, pale,
as she leans over him and whispers
I didn’t think forever would ever
end.
