How so many people
Are fooled
By a smile
A laugh
A hand on their shoulder
"I'm just fine"
It's funny
How smiles
Are the best type of costume
How so many people
Would rather believe
The happy lie
Than the awful truth
Because
They don't ever want to think
There's anything wrong
They want to think
You're okay
They want to think
You're coping
Even when you're not
Don't they look into my eyes
And see the pain
And the sadness
And the longing
Don't they ever see?
Why are they always fooled
By a fake smile?
