As the snow fell

On the now pure white ground
I thought back
To when there was no snow
When the grass was green
The big green trees full
The ground clear and clean
The warm afternoons
The sun shining bright
Oh, the glorious days

But, then
like a cheetah chasing a gazelle
Catching its prey
Winter came all too fast
Now, I too am caught
Caught by winter’s icy grip
Caught inside, away from the cold
I wish I could go back
To those glorious days

Ever since I was a little boy
I hated the cold
I hated the snow
I hated the sun being blocked out
And now, many years later
Nothing has changed

I was inspired to write this piece by a freak snow storm that covered the ground right when it started to get warm.
