Nostalgia

I remember when the only thing I cried over
was my scraped knees
from running endlessly, timelessly
with you on the blacktop at recess
The scrapes never stayed for long, nor did the tears.

When we were tired of running you’d push me on the swing
on that squeaky yellow swing, I was flying
Everyday was an adventure, everyday I was excited to be alive
with you.

I cry now
often about stress, emotion, you
I’ve slowed down with age
I try my best to keep up, but I’m always a step behind.

The flights I take now
are filled with turbulence, and discomfort
I see you less and less
I’m sorry I wasn't your adventure

From the moment I started growing up
it feels my life has been slipping into bitter disappointment
Everyday I hope and pray
that god will give me something, anything,
I wish he will give all it back.
