Young eyes

Pure, untarnished
Yet open to all lies
They are taught to harness

Drilled by older eyes
Weathered by fear
Scared of open minds
After oh so many years

No one is born with hate
Running through their bones
A child won’t discriminate
Unless it’s learned from the grown

Brainwashed into thinking
We are not all made the same
Color, size, sexuality, religion,
Are all traits seen in vain

Prejudice and bigotry
Are much more out of the way
Than a small act of kindness
That can make somebody’s day

Let us teach the new young eyes
To be loving, kind and colorblind,
As beautiful as a summer sunrise
Is everyone equal in humankind

Let us teach the new young eyes
To accept, love, and embrace,
A celebration we can all apply
To sexuality, religion, and race
