The Moving Tree

Every Spring,
a little sapling would watch the bees fly on by
and go great distances to find fields of flowers
while the little sapling was stuck in one measly spot.
The little sapling wanted to go see the beautiful flowers
that grabbed the attention of the bees,
but her roots kept her from moving a single inch.

Wishing to move,
the little sapling would release all its leaves,
once a year,
in hopes that she could follow wherever the leaves landed.

Year after year,
the little sapling would hope that she
would one day leave the monotonous spot
called home until she became little no more.

This particular Spring,
the tree noticed that the flowers grew a little shorter
and the bees flew a little lower,
but did not dwell on the strange occurrence
since she still could not move.
Unaware to her, she had moved.
Not outward as in her dreams,
but upward, to greater views of those bees and flowers.

The author's comments:

This metaphor describes how I often times become oblivious to my small achievements while I am focused on long term goals. I become so focused on the end result that I forget to appreciate the smaller accomplishments that will eventually lead me to my goal, even if it is not in the way I expected. This is a flaw that brings out negative traits in me. I feel worthless at times since I assume that I have not accomplished anything, but in reality, I have accomplished a multitude.
