Iron cages restrain beasts within them.
Roars echo through the tunnels before the trap doors unleash what’s inside.
The man is out first, welcomed by a bright light, and colosseum cheers.
Dust clouds swirl as Carpophorus approaches the unruly bear’s battle.
Spear in hand, swings exchange.
A lion and tiger approach next.
Defeating the beats, Carpophorus wins: three against one.
Ruler Commodus rewards Carpophorus with life, but he merely survives.
Gladiators: the victims have little chance of survival in battles.
The Bestiarius: unlike other gladiators, fights the animals, and rarely humans.
Bestiarius’ have compressed life spans due to brutal battles.
Twenty animals later, blood seeps into the dry dust on the Colosseum ground.
Locked up, shackled, against his will, the winner was poisoned by the doctor.
