I did not get to yell
I did not get to scream
I was not given the bloody advantage of stepping into this conversation first
I have told my body
The war is over
But in truth,
That is just a lie
The printing press puts out in the Sunday paper.
For I did not get the chance to unlove you
In a way that could be traded for peace.
I did not get a warning
A flag
Seconds before
To catch my breath
Like I so rightfully deserved.
