Yearning For Forever Island
A dream so real
I could touch it,
and it wouldn’t disappear
A dream, like Santorini
The mountainous terrain
slips into turquoise coasts,
and cuts deep into the cerulean water
A blue so sincere,
so promising,
I trust it to guide me,
to lead the way
A promise, like Santorini
A colorful city,
rests on cliffs and hills
they are kings and queens
at the top of their kingdom,
chapels resemble a crystal-clear sky,
lined with golden embellishments
houses are summer reflections,
beaming the shades of a sunset
A kingdom, like Santorini
Side by side,
the houses cluster
to form a cozy barrier around each other,
each one is white-washed
stairs and paths twist and turn
through the abyss
An abyss, like Santorini
The warm air floats around
this is the origin of simplicity
the rubble of fallen foundations clump together
to create some kind of artistic wonder
A wonder, like Santorini
I smell the island air
it is refreshing, and salty like the sea
small sailboats sway back and forth in the water,
specks in the ocean’s universe
slow ripples turn into large waves
its gaping mouth threatens to swallow anything
in its path
A speck in our universe, like Santorini
The sun glimmers against the ocean
its surface sparkles ever so slightly
like fairydust
the magic never vanishes
A glimmer, like Santorini
As the day carries on
the sun does too,
in the blink of an eye
the crystal skies somehow change
to soft oranges, pinks, and yellows,
I attempt to capture every moment
hoping my brain could be my camera
I cherish every
mountain,
ocean,
house,
memory
A memory, like Santorini
I hold on so tight
wanting to grasp this
as a reality
but the colors fade to grey
then I’m right back where I started
A dream so real
I could touch it,
and it wouldn’t disappear
A dream, like Santorini

I have always loved writing and researching about Santorini, Greece. I have done various projects on it in the past, and I definitely have a passion for this island. One of my many hopes and wishes would be to someday visit Santorini... it would be a dream come true!
